Zara Trench Coat (sold out, similar) | American Eagle Jeans | Danier Sweater | Steve Madden Booties (similar) | Street Level bag via American Eagle
Fall in Alberta is just about the time to start thinking about coats. Make that the later part of summer actually! I love jackets. For so long I never even thought to match my coat to my outfit. They were always just a necessity to get me from one indoor place to the next. Something I had to put on to not get frostbite! But over the past few years, I have realized just how much a coat can add to an outfit; be that a leather jacket, a nice peacoat, or a basic trench coat.
I had always strayed from the idea of having a bunch of coats, I mean, they will probably be some of the more expensive items your wallet has had to deal with. Luckily, if you find the perfect one, it’s always worth it! Especially, when you have to wear it for 7 months of the year.
I invested in a puffer coat last year after a trip to the mountains left me chilled to my bone, and since, I have worn it on every freezing day. It was quite the investment, but I know that I won’t have to replace it for years, and that helped me justify the price tag.
This trench was a brand new purchase from the end of season Zara sale not too long ago. I went in there on the last day after promising myself I wouldn’t go in at all. It had been a major shopping month and I did not need another sale to entice me into spending more. I can say that, as per usual, I broke my rule and said I would just go in for a “peak”… This coat immediately caught my attention because I had been wanting one for so long, but was not willing to put in the $200 on most that I had seen. It was the very last trench coat on the rack and I couldn’t believe that it was actually in my size. I looked everywhere for what was wrong with it because I had no idea why they would sell a jacket going into fall. I snatched that thing up quicker than I’d like to admit.
The other day my whole family gathered up and went out for dinner and a movie. Vietnamese vermicelli bowls are my favourite meal and lucky enough, that’s what we had decided on. We went and saw The Accountant with Ben Affleck and it was great! Made me a little too excited about the crime fighting ( 😉 ) that I will be doing in my future career! I wanted something simple for the night so I could fill up on vietnamese and movie theatre popcorn. I opted for dark jeans, black booties, a simple black sweater, and of course my trench.
What are your must have coats for the cooler weather?
