The point of clothes is to look and feel your best. When you find a piece that does just that, hold onto it and wear the absolute crap out of it! I’m sharing the top 10 most worn pieces in my closet so that if you’re looking for some versatile staples, you know exactly what to buy.
I keep track of the clothes I own by using the price per wear system. It’s basically a tracker to find out how often I wear an item in my closet, and how much it costs me per wear essentially. That way, I know exactly what I love to wear and what I think every gal should have in their closet. I wrote a post all about it (including a free downloadable spreadsheet!) on the blog here.
Since I keep track, I actually know how many times I’ve worn almost every piece in my closet and the exact cost per wear of them too. Call me crazy, but it’s really showed me what I love to wear and what I shouldn’t be buying ever again (hello scratchy sweaters, I’m looking at you!) My spreadsheet has a format that highlights the 10 things I’ve worn the most since I started tracking. If you’ll notice, this list is full of neutrals and versatile pieces. This isn’t surprising because these pieces are always what I pair with other pieces.
Call these my closet basics if you will, but these are the pieces that I constantly reach for and wear all. the. time.
The 10 Most Worn Pieces in my Closet
1. Black Aritzia Wilfred Free Turtleneck
Worn: Too many times to count
An absolute must for a closet basic. Years ago I snagged this turtleneck on sale for $20 and I’ve worn it probably once a week ever since. It’s the perfect piece to throw on with statement pants or a skirt, it’s easy to wear under dresses or tops to make them winter appropriate. Basically, it’s your dream closet item. If this ever got ruined or lost, I would 100% cry. That’s just the way it goes when you find a turtleneck that fits well an doesn’t pill whatsoever. It’s like you’ve just stumbled on a goldmine.

2. Black Aritzia Front Tie Pant
Worn: 131 times
These have been in so many of my Instagram #ootds that it’s a wonder they haven’t completely disintegrated yet. These are by far the most worn thing I own. I wear them to work VERY often, and usually opt for them on the weekends too. They’re just so comfy and they look cute with just about anything. I’ve never found a pair of pants that fit me better, which is why I have these in 4 colours. Oops! As a gal with thicker thighs, finding trousers that work for me has always been a nightmare so theses were a godsend. You can check out the best pair of pants for gals with thick thighs here, if you also struggle to find some!

3. Navy Pinstripe Aritzia Modesto Pant
Worn: Too many times to count
Another pair of trousers hit this list and I’m not surprised at all. I’m just a trouser lover, what can I say?! I have these in 2 colours because I love the fit so much. I will say that usually a front pleat does me no good, but this pair just seems to work. I’m always into adding some more interesting pieces to my wardrobe, and these fit the bill. They’re navy so they’re still versatile, but the pinstripe adds a little something else. Thankfully, they’re subtle enough that you can wear them with a lot, and I definitely take advantage!
I also have this same pattern in a jacket, a button down and a wrap top. Can you sense a pattern here?

4. Black Zara Faux Fur Coat
Worn: Too many times to count
This was the staple of my exchange to Copenhagen. I wore it almost every day and it really hasn’t slowed down since. It’s the perfect statement coat without being too statement and I love that it seems to go with everything. Coats are such an easy place to start when you’re looking for closet staples because if you get a good one, it can be worn for just about anything and with just about everything.
I first saw it on Julia Engel right before I jetted off to Europe and I had to have it. Luckily there was 1 left on the clearance rack at Zara. I paid $40 for a jacket I’ve easily worn over 150 times. That’s what dreams are made of people.

5. Cream Aritzia Laboratoire Coat
Worn: 70 times
I got this coat secondhand after searching for months for it in cream. It’s been an absolute favourite of mine ever since. I love that it looks cute, is comfortable and warm enough to wear on some of Edmonton’s chillier days. Recently, I snagged a bigger size because I wanted it to be a bit roomier for sweaters underneath. That means I’m selling my old one on my Poshmark (shameless plug but you also need this coat).

6. Black Rebecca Minkoff Jaylin Boots
Worn: 95 times
I bought these boots on clearance a few years ago, unsure if they were really going to be worn a ton. I was SO wrong. They are the most worn (and LOVED) shoe in my closet. The quality is really good compared to a lot of the other boots I’ve owned in the past and honestly, I can see it. They’ve lasted 2.5 winters basically unscathed which is seriously saying something.
I got them for 60% off so I didn’t splurge too bad on this pair, but I would buy another pair of RM boots for full price after these. They’re worth every penny! Rebecca Minkoff always has great sales and some of the cutest pieces so make sure to keep an eye on her site as winter winds down.

7. Black Thrifted Croc Tote Bag
Worn: 34 times
This is the biggest upset of the year for most worn. I found this bag at Goodwill and wasn’t even sure I liked it. Thankfully, it was 50% off that day making it $6, so I justified taking it home with me. Just a few months later, it’s on this list. It’s the perfect size to fit my laptop and all my goodies for weekends at the coffee shop and it matches just about every outfit. That’s a trend on this list, black and matches just about anything. At least I’m consistent!

8. H&M Pearl Hoop Earrings
Worn: 46 times
I have these earrings in both the larger style and the smaller style, and let me tell you, both quickly turned into my go-tos. I love pearls. I think they look so pretty and they really class up any outfit. Don’t ask me why, because I can’t tell you, but they do in my eyes. I love that they are fun enough to bring some interest to my outfit, but not over the top enough to stand completely out. In the future, I’ll be attempting to snag a real pair that look similar to these ones so that I can have them forever. These are just too good not to be included in this post!

9. Blue Aritzia Lounge Set
Worn: 97 times
I’ve never shown this set on the blog although I wish I had. I posted on Instagram about how I was overweight on my luggage in Australia, so I stuffed the shirt into my pocket in hopes of lowering the weight of my suitcase. I’m still SO sad to say that I lost it that day. It must have dropped on the plane or in the airport because when I got home, it was gone. It was a big blow. I managed to find a similar colour tank top at Aritzia a few months later, but the set will never be the same.
Either way, both with the old and new top, I wear this set ALL the time. I never though cute loungewear would make me feel so much better. Maybe it’s because the alternative is me wearing gross 10 year old sweatpants when I get home from work. I love this set mainly for the pants since they’re culottes. I’ve never been able to find ones quite as cute, so I’m hoping Aritzia bring them back this year, or I find another pair secondhand. I would buy them in every colour if I could! Maybe this time I’ll buy 2 tops just for safe keeping?!
10. Gucci Belt
Worn: 58 times
This belt was probably one of the most expensive things in my closet (other than my Reformation coat, hello beautiful!). Although extravagant for sure, my Gucci belt is one of the most worn things in my closet. I LOVED it before I bought it and even though I got it secondhand, it still hasn’t hit my PPW goal. To me, this was still a great purchase becuase to this day (2 years later), I love it and I know I’ll keep wearing it long after it hits my $5 goal.
