As you can probably tell from this blog or maybe the fact that I like to do no-shopping months, I spend a good chunk of my income on clothes. What can I say, I love it! It’s my “thing,” if you will. Sometimes a get a lot of slack for that. The truth is though, I think investing in your wardrobe can be a good thing.
Now don’t get me wrong, I take shopping to a whole new level. You don’t have to be my kind of committed to fashion, but buying something on the more expensive side doesn’t have to, and shouldn’t cause you stress.
You shouldn’t feel guilty investing in your wardrobe. Full stop. That’s it. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Now let me tell you why.
You wear clothes every day of your life (for the most part LOL). Hopefully, the clothes you are putting on your body are making you feel GOOD. That’s the point of clothes right? Number 1, to cover yourself, but number 2, to make you feel good!
In my opinion, clothes have a huge impact on your self esteem and therefore your confidence. So why not dress to impress yourself?
Sometimes, that means spending a pretty penny on your clothes. By spending more $$ on the pieces you wear, hopefully you’re taking more time to actually think about the purchase. When that’s the case, you most likely LOVE the pieces you’re buying.
You’re making sure it’s exactly what you were looking for: the fit has to be perfect (or tailorable), the fabric and pattern is what you wanted, and it fills a hole in your existing wardrobe.
When you love the pieces you buy and have checked off all the musts before you hand over the cash, you’re going to love wearing the piece for a very long time.
This coat was one of those pieces for me. I had seen bloggers wear coats like this and every time I saw one I seemed to love it more. Also, I didn’t own a peacoat. I was looking for one that was a pretty pattern, had thick material, would be good to wear in the winter, fall and spring, and it had to be at my ankles, among other things. It seemed pretty impossible to find “the one.”
When I was in NYC in February, I stopped at Reformation and unfortunately for my wallet, this coat seemed to check every single one of my boxes, except price. So I left it behind.
But after 2 days, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and the fact that it quite literally, was my dream coat. So, after a little bit of nudging from my friends, I went back and bought it!
It definitely took a huge chunk out of my budget, but here I am 1 month later and I still LOVE it. This coat will last me for a very long time, both because of the quality and because of the fact that I had been thinking about a coat like this for the past YEAR.
Right now, the price per wear is, quite frankly, bad. It’s still in the high double digits, but I know that I’ll get it down quickly with how much I’m going to wear it into spring this year, and fall and winter when those inevitably roll around!
