While writing the last post about road trip tips, I realized that I had a few more than could reasonably fit in 1 post.. So here we are with round 2!
These next 5 road trip tips are just as important as the first 5, and oh man, I would have killed to know these when we headed out on our adventure. Sadly we didn’t have much to go on; my parents aren’t super into road trips, and her parents weren’t super into us driving that far away! But here we are today, back in 1 piece!
Road Trip Tips
Document the Trip
We wrote down significant things that had happened in the bottom of our Triptik pages. This way, to this day we can remember the little things that could have easily been forgotten. Our goal was also to fill up our memory cards with photos. We exceeded our goal and came back with thousands of photos!
Don’t take the Scenic Highway the whole time
We were so enthralled by making sure we saw everything that we possibly could… we planned to take the scenic highway the entire trip. Bad idea; it nearly doubled our driving some days. Stick to certain parts of the trip to take the scenic route. Ask around and see if there are specific parts that you want to see or are recommended to because they’re so beautiful. All available in your handy AMA Triptik! In my experience, the Oregon coast is worth the scenic highway, as well as the middle of California, the views were otherwordly!
Calm Down
We had a few uh ohs on the trip — cue not being able to get a hotel room in San Francisco because I wasn’t 21 and having my reservation ripped in half in front of me (= traumatizing). But there was no reason to get as stressed as we did. The worst that could happen is we keep driving and find someplace else. So be calm, almost everything can be fixed!
Pack Well
We definitely did NOT pack right. Making sure things you would need more often were easily accessible is very important. Have your bathing suit and towel (we were in Cali in the summer), toiletries, and little things that you use often out of your suitcase and ready to go. It will make your life easier, trust me. Also, plan for the different parts of the trip, this way, you have bags packed for your California adventure vs your Phoenix stay.
Make a list
Make a list of must sees and must dos. You never want to leave a place without doing something you’ve always wanted to do (within reason of course!). This way, you can at least somewhat plan your days to stay in a specific area or dedicate time to things that are on your list!
Hopefully these road trip tips let your experience go a lot smoother than mine did. Although it was tons of fun, it definitely could have gone smoother.
xx Victoria
