I am the first to admit that I am not the best when it comes to makeup. I was never really into makeup. It was overpriced and I wasn’t any good at putting it on anyways. But since I have started practicing and researching some better ways to apply makeup, I love it! I love that you can change a look with a swipe of lipstick or an extra dose of mascara. So I wanted to show you the products I use in my makeup routine here on the blog!
Although I still buy a lot of my makeup from drugstores, there are a few things that I have found and loved from more expensive places. Majority of my makeup is from the beauty aisle at Shoppers Drug Mart. I love being able to find good makeup at even better prices because I don’t have the cash to be spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora every other week! (which is 100% what I would do if I could)
I’ll first start out with my base layers. The Urban Decay Prep Spray is life changing. I notice my makeup stays on better since starting to use it and my skin feels refreshed after a few sprays. I start with this every morning after I wash my face but before I put any cream on.
My next step is my face and eye cream and then primer. For a long time I thought primer was useless; why would I spend money on something that you couldn’t see? I was so wrong. If you haven’t used a primer before, this is your sign to go out and buy one. I’ve had noticeable changes in the way my makeup stays until the end of the day. Before, I was coming home from work with blotchy patches free of makeup, while other spots had it caked on. It was like the makeup had migrated over to another part of my face!
I started to use the primer because I wanted to get it out of my makeup case, refusing to throw it out because I had paid for it. I noticed an immediate difference that night when I came home to my makeup still intact. Now I’m hooked! I have only used Porefessional by Benefit and it works amazing, but I am going to start searching for some more affordable options so stay tuned!
I have searched high and low for a foundation that I didn’t hate, trying everything from $10 Revlon to $110 Yves Saint Laurent and still couldn’t find one I loved. My skin is very pale so I have trouble finding a foundation that isn’t unnaturally yellow or dark. I never buy the same foundation twice because something about them always isn’t perfect. Instead, I opt to go for a new one hoping that I will like it more than the last. I finally found one at Shoppers that I would actually buy again. Maybe it’s just my primer, but I really like this one. It’s Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous foundation, and I use the lightest shade. It’s thick enough to hold but light enough not to get cakey. I then top it off with Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous concealer and blend it all with my beauty blender.
Now on to the powders. I prefer a loose powder to set my foundation and concealer, but a pressed one to keep oils down on the go. I use Covergirl loose powder and I love it. It smells nice and sets my makeup like a champ. I then apply bronzer under my cheekbones and along my hairline using Rimmel Sun Shimmer. Finally, I finish off with blush on the apples of my cheeks to my hairline. I just started using this Sephora blush, although I think I may look for a duller pink my next visit.
My mascara use is minimal if any. I shy away from it because it’s a pain to take off at night. Lately I’ve found that it really finishes off my look and makes me look more awake so I never go without on the blog. I have been using the Maybelline mascara for as long as I can remember wearing mascara. It’s the one my mom uses so I just continued the tradition. I began using the NYC mascara when it went on sale and I like it more than I thought I would. I put it on top of the Maybelline when I want a more dramatic look, but it does tend to flake which is why I probably won’t purchase it again after this tube runs out.
Seeing as I now have a slight obsession with makeup (you can check out my makeup in action in my latest posts here and here), more beauty posts are sure to come, and eventually one about my face routine so stay tuned! Thanks for reading and happy Wednesday!
xx Victoria

Pretty photos! I was never the best with makeup either, but once I had someone show me how and what to apply, I’ve been much better! I find it’s best for me if I invest in higher quality concealers and powders then use drugstore brand mascara and eye shadow. It’s a nice balance :).

It definitely helps having someone show you the ropes! That’s a good idea! You can definitely find some things for a good price but others, you just have to splurge on for sure.
Thanks for stopping by!
