Recently, I went to MAC for a makeup lesson. My mom had gifted it to me for Christmas last year, and I just got around to going. Let me start with the fact that I am awful at doing makeup. It turns out blotchy and streaky, and because I’m no good, I never invest in good products. My skin is very fair, so to find foundation or cover up or what not is almost impossible. So, going in for my lesson, I was super skeptical. I didn’t think she could show me what I was actually looking for while making it basic enough that I could replicate it at home.
I was proven wrong! It was a great hour and a half of learning exactly what I wanted to learn. She began the appointment with asking me what my issues with makeup were and what I wanted her to show me. My request was a face look without using foundation (because I can never find the right shade) as well as how to achieve the perfect dark lip. I had owned a dark red colour for a while, but never wore it because I always felt like it just didn’t work for me.
She showed me the appropriate way to use the brushes she was using. She also made sure that the colour she used on my face matched perfectly. At first, there were a few things that she thought would work, but after trying a little bit out on my skin, it still didn’t match. That’s a key reason why I enjoyed the makeup lesson. There are products that the sales associates use on their face and love.. but they may not work on my face. So I was able to try out new products without spending the money on it just to find out that it was too dark.
To top it all off, I got 20% off the entire store for the whole day! I picked up a few of the products that she used on me. Plus, I added a few more to my Christmas list, and went home with a free mascara which was a gift with purchase of the makeup lesson. So I ended up taking home the Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Dark Out to go with the matte lipstick shade “Sin”, Prep & Prime lipstick primer, Matchmaster concealer in shade 1.0, and the free mascara which I chose to be the Instacurl Lash.
If you’re like me and have no clue about anything when it comes to makeup, I highly recommend booking a makeup lesson! They’re a great way to get your foot in the door of makeup and an easy way to feel more confident in yourself. You can also add it to your Christmas list. Just ask for a MAC gift card with the makeup lesson fee on it!
Have you ever gone for a makeup lesson? If so, what did you think of it?
Thanks for stopping by!
xx Victoria

I had never heard of it either until I started asking around. It was a great opportunity to learn some new things about makeup! Thank you Eliza, I really came around to the dark lip once I had a better application method!

Oh wow I had no idea that Mac offers lessons! This sounds so interesting and I love that you shared your experience with us. I will have to see if they offer one over here as well.

I didn’t know either until they offered it right to me! I would definitely recommend it for a makeup newbie like me!
