I love a leather legging. They instantly make an outfit more chic and they’re comfy as heck. What’s not to love?!
For me, what “wasn’t to love” was the fit. I have a body shape that I think a lot of people can relate to. I’m a curvy gal. I have some hefty thighs and a waist that doesn’t exactly match that. So what that means… is leather leggings usually fit like trash.
Cue the Knix x The Birds Papaya leather leggings.
I saw these in the box that came out last year but didn’t want to pull the trigger on the entire box. So when they came out with just the leggings, I knew I wanted to take my chances on trying to snag them. Keep in mind that these sell out fast. If and when they come back in stock, you need to have your butt in gear and ready the minute they drop. This past time they sold out in under an hour.
They are the perfect mix between leather like and comfy leggings. I had a pair of faux leather leggings (*cough* the Aritzia Daria pant) and they just did not fit me well. Too much falling down and bunching at the knees. No thank you.
But in saying that, I hate the “leather” leggings that don’t really look anything like leather. They look just kind of blah.
These are neither of those. These look like leather and they are super comfy – can I get a heck yes from the group?!
I went with a size large. I saw that Sarah from the Birds Papaya wears a size large and we have similar sizing, so I thought it was my best bet. My biggest fear was getting them in after they sold out, only to realize they didn’t fit. Now that would have been a bummer. For some context, I wear a size medium in Knix undies and usually an 8 (sometimes 10) in bottoms.
I should have gotten a medium.
If you’re like me and are curvy, you need to shop for your waist as much as your thighs. I shopped only for my thighs and as I wear them more and they stretch out, I can tell.
At this point, I’ve worn them 3 times and I can tell they are quite a bit looser on the top than they were originally. I don’t find that they’ve stretched in the thighs very much, but I think I still could have gotten away with a medium.
I’ll obviously continue to wear them but not going to lie, I might snag myself a medium the next time they launch and sell my size large.
Did you get a pair of the Knix x The Birds Papaya leather leggings when they launched? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

YES! So happy I was able to fetch myself a pair (same as you, in black). I was hoping you’d incorporate them in one of your “ways to wear” video series but nothing like that happened yet. Please consider something like that, will you? 🙂
