Thinking you want an oversized denim jacket for fall but don’t know how to wear it?! I snagged my dream jean jacket this year from a secondhand store and wanted to show my favourite way to wear it!

I feel like denim jackets are an absolute hit or miss. They go with just about anything, but at the same time, if you picked a bad one, you can easily go from chic to soccer mom. That’s what we’re trying to avoid here people! (No offence to soccer moms LOL). My point is, finding the right denim jacket is like finding the right pair of denim, it takes work!
This year, oversized denim jackets have come out in full force. You could go for a vintage inspired look like I did here, or a more modern one which is usually a normal denim jacket but with extra length. Either or are going to be winners!
My biggest piece of advice when looking for a denim jacket is colour and fit are the two most important things. Any colour is the right one if that’s what you’re going for. In my closet, I have a blue one, a black one, and now this one. Although, I’m thinking of trading the blue one in for a newer version.
Fit is a little trickier. With oversized, you need to make sure the shoulders are still flattering and the length hits where you want. You also have to think about how you want to wear it. If you’re looking for one to do up, like I did here, making sure it fits around your hips is a must. I can tell you, most don’t for me which is why I was so excited about this find! If you’re more into the open jacket look, shoulders are your big concern. Plus, think about sizing up if you’re going to be putting sweaters underneath.
Wow, who would have thought that denim jackets are that tricky to find?!
Once you find a good one, trust me, you’ll have it for a lifetime!
Now onto the actual wearing part! Oversized denim jackets are great because they encourage layering. We all know fall is THE layering time of the year. For a casual look, throw it over a nice hoodie fleece and leggings for a chic way to be comfy as heck. Or, if you’re more the dress up type (like me!), try it over a pair of trousers, a great sweater and a neck scarf. My other fave way to wear is pretty obvious. Belt your denim jacket and wear with some comfy leggings!
