This past weekend I was in Lake Louise, Alberta for a business conference put on by a group at my university. You probably noticed if you follow me on Instagram since all my photos from the weekend were me living it up in Lake Louise! These kinds of events require workwear, and honestly, I kind of love it! I haven’t really worn much in terms of business outfits since I left work, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss it.
Workwear is honestly one of my FAVE ways to dress. There’s nothing like a good pair of trousers (as I’ve mentioned time and time again!), and I love any excuse to dress up! How could you not love it?!
People tell me that business clothes are boring and I completely disagree.
There are SO many ways to add in a bit of your personality while still looking professional. In this case, my blazer and heels were step #1.
This blazer is an old fave from H&M; I have the matching pants and wear them both constantly together and separately. That’s the beauty of buying sets for me, I can look chic a BUNCH of different ways, which is ALWAYS good for the price per wear!
The biggest thing about dressing professionally, in my opinion, is it has to be appropriate. Don’t let the neckline be too low, the hem too high or your bra straps hang out of your shirt. My point is, when you have the basics down, there’s not much you can go wrong with in regards to putting your own style on display.
If you’re looking to start small, I recommend shoes or earrings.
They can make or break an outfit, but don’t require you to completely put yourself out there.
If you’re wanting something a little more bold, try a fun patterned blazer or bright coloured pants.
These are more noticeable, but still easy and wearable.
If you’re wanting to go all out, mix and match the above, or wear a bold suit or matching top and bottoms.
I can honestly say that matching separates (and suits), have been my absolute favourite thing this past year. I feel bold, confident, classy and STYLISH when I wear them, and that’s exactly the look I’m going for!
Adding some interesting pieces into my workwear outfits is the BEST because they make them more me! Plus, at networking events, I’ve found it SO helpful to be wearing something interesting because it usually leads to a bit of an icebreaker conversation – so win, win!
