I got into podcasts not too long ago and in a short amount of time I have devoured a TON of mystery and murder series. It’s my favourite genre of podcasts because I find it less scary than TV but SO interesting to listen to. There are so many good ones out there, but I’ve rounded up my faves so you can dive right in and listen to these juicy ones before new seasons are released.
7 Best Mystery & Murder Podcasts of All Time
1. The Teacher’s Pet
This was my latest find in the world of M&M podcasts and I ate. it. up. Such an interesting story and still on the forefront of people’s minds in Australia after all this time.
It deals with the murder of a woman in Australia and a sex ring in high schools around the area which is also related. As I was listening to it, I couldn’t believe that nothing more was done to deal with the situation, but from the later episodes, it sounded like more people were starting to take notice and demand things be done which is AMAZING!
Update: There has been an ARREST and now a trial!
2. S-Town
S-Town is by the same makers as my favourite podcast of all time and it didn’t disappoint! It’s more on the mystery side of things but so good. The maker of the podcast went to a town so he could investigate a murder. He found something completely different when he went there and it’s wild, people. I’m telling you, you’ve got to put this on your list.
3. Someone Knows Something
I’m all about that #CanadianMade life, and this is the perfect podcast for it. It’s about Canadian stories and dives deeper into some old mysteries that still haunt the people in small towns around the country.
4. Finding Cleo
In Canada, we have a national inquiry into the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. It’s known that these women are unfairly targeted and a lot of the cases go unsolved. It’s a big issue that we have as a country, so I love to hear stories of more people learning about the issues they face. This podcast is investigative journalism into some of these women and girls and it is WILD what they find. I’m waiting for the next season to come out because it’s a binge listen kinda podcast.
5. In the Dark
A Podcast about the disappearance of a little boy and the later discovery of his body. It talks about some pretty terrible things that happened as a result of his disappearance and it discusses if enough was done by authorities. I’m not sure of much about police work, but this podcast kinda threw me for a loop.
6. Caliphate
This one is by a famous journalist who goes to Syria (and other places) to investigate ISIS. It’s wild what she can find by going into the places they leave behind and just how she uses that information.
I have friends who have found it a little bit gruesome, but I don’t find it too bad. If you aren’t into bloody descriptions, this might be a tad hard to listen to, but it’s too interesting not to try anyway!
7. Serial
This is my favourite podcast of ALL. TIME. It is seriously amazing. I was frustrated with myself for listening to this one first because not much can compare. It was like starting with dessert and then having to eat broccoli after. Not my fave.
That’s exactly why I put it last on my list because you should butter yourself up with the other good ones before turning to Serial.
I loved both season 1 and 2 of Serial but I’ve heard others who definitely preferred the first one to the second. The 3rd season is also out but I’m not the biggest fan so far.
As a hardcore mystery and murder podcast lover, these were my faves!
I listened to a few more that, (in my opinion) aren’t worth mentioning, but I will keep updating the list as soon as I find new ones!
