This is my last year of official back to school and it’s crazy that it’s come so fast! I’m super excited to be done but back to school shopping isn’t something I’ll miss out on once university is over for me. Fall is such a great time to reinvent your wardrobe a bit because the pieces you pick up are staples for the rest of the year!
This year I’ve noticed some significant trends that I am loving. There is a ton of pattern going on with snake print and tweed at the forefront of all my favourites this year. I snagged this tweed ball cap that will be perfect for my lazy days in class when I still want to look partially pulled together! I usually tend to opt for darker colours this time of year and I’ve recently noticed a ton of marigold and dusty rose. I’ll be adding these colours to my summer pieces to give them an instant fall vibe.
Sweaters are always a go-to when the weather gets a little chillier and I picked up a few from H&M last week. Burgundy is one of my favourite fall colours and with off the shoulder still going strong, combining the two is like heaven in a sweater. A sweater dress and a basic V-neck also made it into my cart this year and I’m all ready to pair them with dark colours and boots to amp up my wardrobe for fall.
Next up, the perfect pair of jeans. Now I know that’s like finding a needle in a haystack, or more likely, a needle in a field of haystacks, but if you keep trying on as many as possible, you might be in luck. I grabbed a pair from the new Denim Forum at Aritzia and so far they seem like I may have hit something..! They’re true to size but stretchy, so maybe going down one size would be beneficial, depending on how you like your jeans to fit. I ordered both the 29 and 30 to see which will be more comfortable. The straight leg is my favourite this year but I’ve also been loving a good pair of subtle flares; I’m feeling anything but the skinny this year, but I do love those when I wear boots.
Tops are where you can go a little crazy with colours, patterns and other fall styles because they usually tend to be on the cheaper side. Although, grabbing a few beautiful blouses for work or dressier occasions is always a good idea. I snatched up this PJ inspired top and a marigold floral top, both from Aritzia, to add to my workwear collection because I know I’ll be doing some presentations in school. I love this front tie long sleeve, this button front blouse, and this polka dot top for back to school which can be worn this fall or layered for winter.
An easy way to transition your outfits to fall is with accessories. Big chunky earrings have been a fav of mine for a while (like here with floral earrings, or here with easy gold earrings), but this fall I’m definitely going to be adding more tortoise shell pieces, plus lots of gold earrings like these asymmetric ones and these leaf ones. Not to mention my growing love of bandana scarves which I show all. the. time. like here, here, here, here, and here to name just a few. I’m going to buy some more in deeper hues like this mustard one, this one and this printed one.
There you have it, my back to school shopping guide! With all the sales happening, now’s the perfect time to stock up which I definitely did. Now off to my very last first day of school!
xx Victoria
