If you’re wondering when I’ll ever get over my trip to Australia, the answer is NEVER! Australia’s the place that’s got it all; sun, sand, surf AND the best cities. It’s a far trip for me, but definitely one I’ll be making again. If for nothing else, the shopping would bring me back on it’s own!
I shared the first few parts of my trip in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney on the blog, and now we’re getting closer to you all knowing my trade secrets. Even though I didn’t spend a ton of time in the Gold Coast, the places I made it to were definitely worth the mention!
A Weekend on the Gold Coast
What do do
Byron Bay Lighthouse is the most amazing stop for the end of your day to watch the sunset. You definitely need to give yourself some time to get there and find parking though because it’s tough, but SO worth it. Walk around the area and set up on the grass early to watch the sun go down!
The Farm at Byron Bay is what my farm dreams are made of! It has local goods being sold, what looked like a well stocked café and plenty of spots to enjoy the sun outside. While we were there, there was a wedding going on and it looked SO stunning. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a spot to stop for some food! You can see more on their website here.
Walk the Gold Coast Oceanway for a day you’re not as keen to sit on the beach. It runs for a really long time, you won’t run out of path!
Beaches
Byron Bay is the typical Australian beach that everyone wants to go to. It’s nice but honestly, it’s overrated. The day I went, the beach was so packed and it was freezing cold so no one was really swimming. I’d say take a peak but don’t plan to spend much time on the beach here.
Burliegh Beach is the spot I would stop for a swim! It’s a beautiful long beach with tons to do around. Thankfully, there are lifeguards there because the waves were actually huge for me!
Where to eat
We only made a few stops on the Gold Coast for food because we had actually gone to visit my friend’s family. So, for the most part, we ate home cooked meals on this leg.
That being said, if you’re looking for a great breakfast stop, hit up Bam Bam Bakehouse. It has great vibes with the whole restaurant being open to the outside and really good croissants. I had the eggs benny, which was served on a croissant, and it was SO good. Make sure not to pass up trying a few of their pastries as well!
Want a little bit of a quicker breakfast? Head to Helen’s Cafe for an açai bowl. According to my friend that lives there, it’s the best one on the Gold Coast!
Red Hot Cod has a really good fish & chips combo for lunch, and for only $5, it’s a steal! A great post swim stop if you’re on Burleigh Beach.
If you’re looking for a treat, go over to Doughnut Time for donuts! The one with Nutella inside is what dreams are made of.
It was a quick trip to the Gold Coast but we fit enough in to make it feel like I saw the whole thing! This is such an easy trip out of Brisbane if you’re in the city for a while. The drive is easy or, there’s even a train that will take you the entire way!
