Looking at switching to a few more sustainable products but don’t know where to start? I’ve detailed 5 zero-waste products that are worth trying/using this year in your effort to be more environmentally friendly!
One of my life goals is to reduce waste. I say life goals because I don’t want to shrink it into a year or say that 2020 is my year of change. Realistically, I’ve been on this journey to reduce my waste for a few years and plan to continue forever. I have a long way to go obviously, but there are small things I do that have reduced the waste I produce.
I wrote a blog post about easy ways to be more environmentally friendly last year (you can read that here), and this year I wanted to share a few products I use to keep my zero waste living going strong!
1. Reusable Ziploc Bags
Reusable Ziploc bags have been one of my favourite finds from this year. I use them all the time. They are great for packing lunches because they don’t take up as much room as all my containers, and in a lot of cases, actually work better than containers because they don’t leak as easily.
I have a few different brands of reusable bags. First, the OG (and therefore more expensive) reusable bags by Stasher and another type that I snagged from Amazon. I think I’m currently liking the Stasher ones a bit more, just because I don’t love how the other brand washes in the dishwasher.
Obviously, the Stasher brand is significantly more expensive, so it might not be worth it to some. I would say you probably can’t go wrong with most of these bags since they would have a pretty heavy duty closing mechanism. However, if your heart is set on Stasher, sign up for emails from Bed, Bath & Beyond. They send out a monthly 20% off coupon, so you can snag them then!
2. Fabric Bowl Covers
These I saw online months ago and thought they looked so handy. Now, I’m not going to lie, if I was writing this post a week ago, I would say skip these because I hadn’t found myself using them. Now however, I love them.
I had some friends over and served some spinach dip and brie, and before we knew it, we had to head out to the party we were going to. The clean up/put away of food was beyond easy with these bowl covers because instead of leaving out the food to be thrown out when I got home, or having to transfer to containers like I would normally do, I just threw on a bowl cover and walked out the door. It was an absolute win.
3. Beeswax Wraps
These are similar to the above bowl covers in the fact that they are perfect for covering bowls after serving. Otherwise, they also can wrap food like lemons or a half eaten sweet potato.
The best part about these is that you can usually find these in local farmer’s markets being sold by small shops. A lot of the pieces on this list are from small shops, but these in particular seem to be trending right now.
4. Make Up Removing Towel
I’ve said this one on the blog before, but I had to share it here too because they’re too amazing. I use the Makeup Eraser, and I started using it a few years ago when I won an Instagram giveaway. I was pretty skeptical but it was free so I was obviously going to try it out.
When I say my life was changed, it’s not an overstatement. They are amazing. I will never use a makeup wipe again.
You throw them in the washing machine and they wash up good as new. You can use the same one until it falls apart (2 years later and mine is still going strong). And the kicker is you’re saving so much waste from ending up in the landfill unnecessarily.
5. Reusable Cotton Rounds
These are amazing. I used to use a cotton round every day to put micellar water on my face after taking off my makeup with my Makeup Eraser. I still do this, but now I’m not going through loads of cotton rounds. Keep in mind, they will soak up slightly more product than their disposable counterparts so watch out for that when using them.
Make sure you either buy or find a little bag to wash these in. They’re small enough to get lost in the wash and no one wants that for you.

I got 4/5 of these products as gifts this past Christmas, so I haven’t had a ton of time with them. That being said, I already feel VERY strongly about my love for them and I really think you all will too. There are so many options now days to reduce your waste and find green alternatives, that I honestly think it’s rather silly not too.
You’re saving the environment and saving money in one by avoiding disposables. How is that not a win?!
