The minute the sun comes out in Copenhagen, it turns into a completely different city. When I try and explain it to people, it’s hard to put into words. How can I explain the “vibes” when you have no idea what I’m talking about?! It’s much harder than I would have thought. That being said, from living in CPH for 5 months, I perfected my sun’s out, I’m out locations. Anywhere around Copenhagen is amazing at all times. There’s just something about the laid back atmosphere, bikes whizzing by, and chatter of everyone being on the streets that makes warm Danish days some of my favourite memories of living abroad.
3 Best Spots in Copenhagen on a Sunny Day
3. The Glass Market
The Glass Market (aka Torvehallerne) is the perfect spot to chill out on a sunny day – or any day for that matter. Located right in between the shopping street Strøget and the Lakes, it’s the perfect spot to chill and grab a beer and some food enroute. The Glass Market is half made up of stands to get local groceries like fruit and veggies, meats, and wines, and the other half is dedicated to local eateries. Laura’s Bakery has the most amazing lattes and croissants, and the duck sandwich found on the other side is what dreams are made of. Grab your food and have a seat outside on the picnic tables, surrounded by impeccably dressed Danes chatting the day away. Careful though, this hot spot closes at 8 and even earlier on Sundays!
2. The Lakes
Number 2 and 1 were hard to distinguish, but in second place we have the Lakes of Copenhagen! They’re right in the middle of the action with thousands of bikes crossing over every single day. Although there’s a few bridges crossing from one side to the other, Dronning Louises Bro is where you want to be on a sunny day. People end up sitting on the benches, ground, or railings all day with food, wine, and music when the weather turns nice. If you can’t grab a spot in time on the bridge itself (it usually fills up before lunch!), grab your vino and sit along the banks of the lakes on either side. Make sure to bring speakers because good music just adds to the Copenhagen vibe!
1. Paper Island
Finally, in first place is Paper Island or Papriøen! This is a huge building filled with street food vendors with every possible cuisine you could imagine; my fave was always the Pad Thai or the Moroccan Wrap. They provide chairs to enjoy your food outside along the water so grab a beer and watch the sun go down! Originally, I thought Papriøen was super pricey, but once I realized that I wasn’t going to get a cheap meal out no matter where I went in CPH, it turned into a fave location to hang out with friends all times of the day. It’s still amazing when there’s a chill in the air to sit inside, grab a coffee, and eat your heart out. Definitely a must visit in Copenhagen!
Those were the 3 best spots in Copenhagen on a sunny day for me during my time living there. I know the next time I go back, I will definitely be hitting up all of the above, and hopefully, find a few new spots that just have that vibe!
