The first 3 weeks of my exchange have flown by, and I’m not going to lie to you, some of the time wasn’t easy. After my extensive research, there were still some things I was not expecting for the first few days of my exchange. It wasn’t until I made a less than optimistic post on Instagram that I heard some other people tell their stories of the first few days of their semester abroad experiences. Since then though, things have definitely improved, and I am absolutely loving the start of my semester abroad.
The first few weeks have consisted of lots of sightseeing and getting all the details ironed out. When you’re in a new city trying to live, especially when you don’t speak the language, finding a cord to get internet can turn into a full day long adventure. Copenhagen Business School is very well prepared with helping students settle in and meet people with all their events, but there were a few things that I had trouble with on my own at first. Living on my own for the first time in my life is not only amazing, but also crazy. There is so much to think about; just ensuring to make time to go grocery shopping is something I’m not used to.
On this particular day, a friend and I had decided to visit the palace of the queen of Denmark! The Amalienborg Palace is very similar to Buckingham Palace, other than the fact that it is 4 separate buildings around a common square of sorts. There are guards with the huge hats and we were lucky enough to accidentally catch the changing of the guards (which is a little overrated if you ask me). With the palace and surrounding areas only being about a 20 minutes bike ride from my dorm, and very close to Nyhavn (those colourful houses), it was super easy to get there for a few hours of sightseeing!
I bought this Zara coat the week before I left and it was slightly an impulse buy. There was only 1 left in the country, and it was a little snug on my arms. I gave it back to the girl in the change room just to take it back 2 minutes later about 4 times before I brought it to the cash register. I’m so thankful I bought it though because it has been a game changer! It’s my most worn coat by far, and I feel so chic in it whenever I throw it on! I would say it fits true to size, and because it was a size smaller than I normally wear in Zara jackets, I usually refrain from wearing it with a thick sweater underneath. Thankfully it’s so fluffy, it keeps me super warm in the Copenhagen mist!
I pulled out my Adidas sneakers for this day which have also been on rotation. They look great while making it easy to bike around town! My Aritzia square scarf was a recent sale find (a sale that is still going on here!) and I love the blush and stripes incorporated. Neck scarves have been a favourite little trend this year and I 100% intend to pull them into the new year with me!
Finally, the only purse big enough to carry my camera around with me, my Camelia Roma bag is a game changer. It looks like a little bucket, but I love how roomy and light it is!

What an amazing experience! It can be challenging living in a new place, but when you look back on it you’ll realize that you learned a lot. Enjoy Copenhagen! I hear it’s paradise for organic food!
