Over reading week in November, I headed out to Vancouver for a few days to apply for my visa for Copenhagen! It was a huge shock that I had to fly somewhere to apply because there is a consulate here in Edmonton. As much as I’m kinda frustrated that my exchange budget was eaten away before I even got to Europe, I was actually really excited to go to Vancity. It was my first solo trip ever. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly intimidated before I went, but I knew I was about to leave for 5 months by myself, so I just had to face my fears and do it! It turned out to be not that hard, and I actually liked all the freedom that came with going solo.
I left on a Sunday and came home on the Tuesday. It didn’t leave a lot of time for activities, but I was okay with that. I was looking forward to sipping lattes in cafes and doing a little bit of shopping. Although, I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting to do just as much shopping as I did.. Oops! You can check out my Vancouver Itinerary here to see how I spent my days.
Saying that, I wanted to share my packing list. I know a lot of people absolutely despise packing. Thankfully, I am definitely not one of those people. I love it. I would probably do it in my spare time if I could!
Vancouver is on the rainy, chilly side of things to give you a glimpse into why I am bringing some of the things that I am.
Vancouver Packing List:
- 2 pairs of jeans — blue (worn), black
- 2 sweaters — turtleneck, black crewneck (worn)
- 1 suede baseball cap
- 2 scarves — colourful, black (worn)
- 2 coats — blazer style (worn), leather
- 1 pair of booties — black (worn)
- 2 bags — blue tote (doubles as a carry on), cross body
- 1 pair of sunglasses
It’s a little tricky trying to pack different looks when most of your time will be spent outside, in the cold. Coats are very bulky and they make the entire outfit. That being said, taking a bold coat and a leather jacket is a great way to be versatile. The leather jacket can be worn with a new scarf and different booties to make that day look different than the previous.
Here is a breakdown of how I wore my packing list:
Day 1: Blue jeans, black crewneck, black booties, blazer coat, black scarf, cross body bag. On my first day, I wanted something comfortable for the plane and walking around. I spent my time walking, getting some groceries and then headed for a casual dinner.
Day 2: Blue jeans, turtleneck, black booties, leather jacket, black suede baseball cap, blue tote. The only full day I was in Vancouver, I had my visa appointment at 11:30 and after that I sat in a coffee shop and walked around shopping for the rest of the day.

That’s a great list as well! It’s super dependent on the weather for me. In warmer climates I would easily be able to remove a coat from the list!

I travel all the time, and I think that learning about packing techniques is always fun. I definitely try and improve my skills all the time. The worst thing is being miles and miles away and realizing you don’t have one thing that you need because your packing was off. I will definitely keep this in my thoughts on my next trip! Thanks!

Absolutely, it’s the worst! I especially hate it on short trips because you really aren’t there for long enough to justify buying something you have at home!
