I’ve loved reading for a long time and this year I was determined to get back into it. I tend to not read during university because I always feel guilty picking up a non-fiction rather than my accounting textbook, so while I’d been off school this past year, I was reading up a storm! In the past year I’ve read over 30 books, some good, some not so good, but I wanted to share my favourites so you can read them too!
I love getting book recommendations because going into the bookstore or library can be super overwhelming if you don’t have a plan. So keep reading to snag my recommendations for fall reading!
7 Books to Read This Fall
It Ends With Us
It Ends With Us is a romance novel with a bigger back story. I won’t give away the book, but if you want an easier read (think Nicholas Sparks but better), this is the perfect book to sit down with and enjoy!
All the Light You Cannot See
I normally don’t gravitate towards books set in the WWII era because, let’s be honest, they make me sad. But this book is fiction set in the war and as such doesn’t have as hard an impact on me. It covers two separate stories that merge in the end and it makes me want to check for more reads in the historical fiction genre.
The Little Book of Lykke
After spending my semester abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, I’ve been super into the concepts of Lykke (happiness) and Hygge (untranslatable but think, warm feeling). The author is the head researcher at the Happiness Institute in Denmark, and shares his findings on what make the Danes among the happiest people in the world. I don’t know about you, but this book has made me want to pack my things and move to Denmark, as if I hadn’t already wanted to do that!
The Lying Game
A little bit of mystery and a little bit of romance make this book a great read for fall! I was so interested while reading this book that I finished it in a few days, which is always the signal of a good read!
Marching Powder
This beauty may not be for everyone, but it’s a super interesting read for those that take the chance on it. Marching Powder is an autobiography/biography (you’ll understand when you read it), that tells the story of a man who gets caught smuggling cocaine in Bolivia. It goes through his story in jail and the intense corruption that is present in the Bolivian prisons. This book is not for the faint of heart, but really exciting!
A Higher Loyalty
I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this one as I’m not super into books about politics, nor do I know anything about American politics. I was expecting a book chalked full of dirty details on Trump, and instead got a deeper look into the American political system with an emphasis on how this president differs from previous ones. Comey is able to portray the facts in an easy to understand way, which is beneficial to those of us that are clueless about how a president runs a country.
The Power of Habit
This is my sister’s all time favourite book and I think it may have turned into mine too! I wouldn’t label it a self-help book, more of a non-fiction in my eyes. But it describes how habits can be used in a positive way and how to alter your own while bringing in relevant but interesting examples to prove his point. If you’re going to read one book this fall, let it be this one!
I’m always on the lookout for new books to read so make sure to comment below with your favourite books!
