This quarantine has put a major damper on everyone’s spring. It sucks, it’s annoying and it’s completely necessary. Keep reading for 4 things I’m doing to help me get through the quarantine!
Here we are, beginning of April, and I haven’t seen my friends face to face in 3.5 weeks. This is not how I was planning to spend my birthday month. As much as I know it’s important to continue doing this, it’s no secret that it’s been hard on everyone. There’s just something about being told you can’t leave your apartment rather than not wanting to leave your apartment.
But, being 3 weeks in, it’s important to realize this is our new normal for now. That means I’m doing a few things to help me get through this time, and that’s going a little further than wearing my favourite sweatsuit everyday and reading a good book!
4 Things I’m Doing to Help Me Get Through the Quarantine
1. Saving Money
With every thing so uncertain right now, including my job (kind of), it makes me feel more secure to not spend money on frivolous things and save it instead. I really want to support local business during this time but I’m really struggling with the idea of spending any money. That being said, I try to buy local here and there to feel good about both – supporting AND saving. I just bought a super cute denim jacket from a local business, Tipsy Palm for $20. Now that’s a win because you’re helping out a biz and it didn’t cost you much.
2. Balancing Productive with “Lazy”
I usually have so many plans, it’s not unusual for me to have my weekends booked up 3 weeks in advance. I know, pretty stupid, but I just love making plans. During this quarantine thing, I’ve been trying hard to not get too down on myself if I don’t do something productive every day. This is hard as is, I don’t need to make it harder by forcing myself to get everything checked off my to-do list.
My solution is to put things I actually like on my to-do list. This might not work for everyone because it may make it feel like a chore for some, but for me it works. So right now I have everything from cleaning my bathroom, to reading a book written down.
3. Chatting with People in the Same Circumstance as Me
Sometimes it’s just nice to hear what someone’s thinking that’s going through the same thing as you. Actually, who am I kidding, that’s always nice. But especially now. Things are so uncertain. And I hate it. That’s probably the worst part for me, knowing that no one has any idea when this will finally be over. Yeah, hi, I’m not accepting that it’ll be 18 months because I just can’t.
But chatting with people you work with who are experiencing similar things, or talking to your friend who also is going to have a quarantine birthday can really put your mind at ease.
4. Taking Advantage of Things I Didn’t Get to Do Before the Quarantine
This one kind of seems silly since we can hardly do anything other than Netflix and eat lately… But I’ve really been trying to take advantage of the few things I didn’t get before I was working from home. For me, that means seriously enjoying being in my apartment when the sun is up. My apartment is west facing so we get evening sun, but for the most part, the sun always used to come in right before I got home from work. It would have definitely helped that the days are getting longer, but I’m going to chalk it all up to being able to work from home all day.
Another one I’ve been loving is being able to eat whatever is in my fridge before it goes bad. This is an LOL but I honestly get so much happiness seeing so little food go to waste. You know how it is when you’re working long hours; you’re picking whatever is easy to eat and forgetting you had 3 cucumbers in your fridge. Now, I look every day to see if there’s anything about to go bad and eat that! Though, I haven’t been to the grocery store in 3 weeks so things are getting scarce over here.
How are you attempting to deal with this new normal? It’s for sure different for everyone and there are definitely better days than others, but we’ve gotta do what we’ve gotta do these days!

Hello Victoria,
Just came across your blog today and enjoying it. I’m also a thrifter, minimalist (kinda), and love a good pair of high waist denim, westen boots, vintage bags and accessories.
